13 June 2009 heavenly city of Valdai, celebrated its 239th birthday!

The city Day celebration began early Saturday morning with prayers at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. And at 10 a.m. residents and guests could observe the construction of a column of motorcyclists and vehicles of the enterprises and participants of the contest «Auto lady» to travel around the city and following a solemn parade from Oktyabrskaya street to the intersection with Gagarin street.

Not have to wait long and festive procession of the column, accompanied by a brass band from the building of the district Administration on Avenue Komsomol, street of Lunacharsky on Svobody square.

By this time, event organizers were already preparing ourselves for the solemn opening of the festival «the Bright colors of the Valdai». Summing up the results of competitions, congratulations to the newlyweds, games, songs, dances, and as the conclusion of a formal greeting residents and guests — all had to wait for the approaching Freedom square solemn column.

A little later, or rather at 14:00 announced the opening of a concert, «the rainbow of talents». The concert of child and youth conference continued with reports section Okinawan karate, Kobudo and other martial arts.

Towards evening all the participants were expecting a big gala concert «happy birthday, Valday!» with participation of show-group «Terpsichore» by popular contemporary songs (Pskov), an interactive youth disco (DJ TIMONIKS with the participation of the group «RAYON» (St.-Petersburg)) and show «Clips» with dance numbers in the style of GO-GO.

Also, on this day of celebration took place:

· Opening of «city of masters» — an Exhibition-sale of products of masters of decorative-applied art from St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Valdai, Staraya Russa, krestsy.

· Master classes on patchwork sewing, weaving, felted toy, painting on clay pottery for everyone

· Concert and dance program of a wind band under control of Anatoly Malyshev (Veliky Novgorod) and the school of dance for adults (Valdai)

· On the festival «Play, accordion, ring, ditty!»

· Concert program «happy birthday, beloved city!» with participation of creative collectives of Valday and guests

Subtotal, all the rules of the holiday, noisy and fun the day ended with festive fireworks!
