Russia day, or Day of adoption of Declaration on state sovereignty of Russia, as this holiday was called until 2002 — is one of the «youngest» state holidays in the country.

In 1994 the first President of Russia Boris Yeltsin issued a decree in June gives 12 national importance — Day of Declaration of state sovereignty of Russia. The document itself was signed four years earlier at the first Congress of people’s deputies of the RSFSR in the conditions when the former republics of the Soviet Union one for another became independent. Later this day began simply called independence Day.

In 1994 this day was declared a public holiday. Formally, is the most important modern public holiday in the country. From this date we can date the beginning of formation of new Russian statehood based on the principles of constitutional federalism, equality and partnership. Russia is building a democratic civil society in which every ethnic group, every citizen sees himself as an integral part of it.

This holiday today, many believe this newfound, forgetting about the centuries-old historical path of Russia to assert their statehood, to the conquest of positions in the formation of a strong state stretching from the Pacific to the shores of the Baltic sea. The independence of Russia — is the result of hard work and the great losses of our ancestors, the result of the military exploits of those who not sparing their lives, defended the inviolability of borders of the country. The Declaration, adopted on 12 June 1990, has become a symbol of the rebirth of a renewed, a different Russia than ensuring the conditions for building a democratic society. The sovereignty of the Russian Federation was proclaimed in the name of higher goals — ensuring that every person has the inalienable right to a decent life, free development and use of language, and to every nation the right to self-determination in elected national government and national-cultural forms.

Now Russia Day — a holiday of freedom, civil peace and good agreement of all people on the basis of law and justice. This holiday is a symbol of national unity and shared responsibility for the present.
